Physical Education

Physical education plays a major role in the overall education of the children in Knox County.  The skills learned in physical education prepare children physically, but also develop readiness skills for success in the classroom.  The goal of K8 physical education is to contribute to the total growth and development of the child, primarily through selected movement experiences and physical activity.

 Health

The overall goal of health is to introduce children to the basic knowledge and skills needed to establish healthy living habits, personal healthcare, and the availability of community health providers.

** Family Life Education and HIV/AIDS Education are included in the strands of the Health Education Curriculum (K-8).  These topics are mandated by State Law (Public Charter No. 565).  Parents shall be informed by P.T.A./P.T.S.O. meetings, newsletters, open houses, etc. that these strands will be taught in the health curriculum and that parents have the option to have their child exempted, by written request, and placed in an alternative learning situation.  Such requests shall be made annually to the Superintendent of Schools, School Board chairperson, and the principal.  Parents are welcome to review this curriculum during regular working hours by contacting their child's teacher at the school.
